Virat Kohli claimed as number one batsman for the first time, defeating Steve Smith : ICC RANKING

The ICC ranking authority told that 29-year-old cricketer Kohli has become the seventh batsman in India who has secured first place in the Test rankings. After the end of the Egbeston Test, fresh ranking was released on Sunday. Kohli did grab the first place in the global batting rankings.

With the 22nd Century in  Test career, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has become the number one batsman in the world as per the fresh ranking released .

Kohli has reached his first place in the Test rankings for the first time in his career. In this order he overtook former Australia captain Steve Smith, Who is unfortunately facing a ban due to an alleged ball tempering.

 In the first Test against England at Edgbaston, Kohli hit a century in which he could also able score 200 as well. That is why he has achieved the number-one Test batsman's ranking .

Now he has joined the club of other Indian players who have been No. 1 in the Test. It includes Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

By getting 934 points in the ranking of Test batsmen, Kohli has become India's top-order batsman.

Kohli played 903 points in the Edgbaston Test, but now he has beaten Gavaskar with 13 points. Kohli is ranked 12th in the T20 batting rankings. Aron Finch of Australia is in first place in this ranking. England's Ben Stokes achieved six wickets in the first Test against India. In this case, he has gained four places in the rankings for Test bowlers and is ranked 27th.

Sam, who played an important role in captaining England in the 1000th Test, has also made a  jump and has made its place of success in the top-100 players. Sam was at first 152nd and now he has risen up to 72nd place.


According to the ICC, Kohli is the first Indian batsman to reach the first spot in Test rankings after Sachin Tendulkar in 2011. Smith was the number-one Test batsman since December 2015, but Kohli grabbed five points to push him to second place and occupy the first place. India's spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 14 points and is one behind South Africa's fourth-ranked bowler Vernon Philander.
